Affiliated Media, parent of Daily News owner MediaNews, to file for bankruptcy protection

Affiliated Media Inc., the holding company for MediaNews Group, whose newspapers include the Denver Post and several Southern California papers, plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company said Friday that it would file a reorganization plan already approved by lenders in a bid to emerge from bankruptcy more quickly. Among MediaNews' California publications are the Daily News in Los Angeles, the Long Beach Press-Telegram, the Daily Breeze in Torrance and the Pasadena Star-News.
